10th Anniversary Symposium

Convergence brought together long-time supporters, project stakeholders, advisors, and new friends to celebrate our 10th anniversary for both a look back and a look forward. The event featured an afternoon of thoughtful conversation about the role of Convergence in contributing to a more civil and functional American democracy and an evening celebration honoring two individuals and one organization critical to our success. A Decade of Difference: Marking 10 Years of Impact

Building Bipartisan Momentum in Congress
Representative Derek Kilmer (D-WA), in conversation with Convergence Board member Lindsay Torrico, explored current bipartisan efforts in Congress and what can be done to ensure that Congress functions more effectively. Rep. Kilmer highlighted the role of Convergence in supporting the Bipartisan Working Group and how our methodology can support much needed reforms that require bipartisan support. Watch here.

The State of Our Democracy: Today’s Reality and Tomorrow’s Hope
Linda Chavez of the Center for Equal Opportunity and William Galston of the Brookings Institution assessed the divisions we see in our nation today in a conversation with Convergence Board member Linda Lorelle. They examined the nature of dialogue in the current political climate and the difficulties we face in getting people to openly listen to different points of view. They also evaluated the effect of the media on how we talk about critical national issues. Both Galston and Chavez agreed that education around civic engagement is key to progress. Watch here.

Revealing the Secret Sauce: What Makes the Convergence Progress Powerful, Surprising, and Impactful
Convergence Leadership Council member Jonathan Gruber facilitated a panel discussion with project stakeholders and staff. Presenters shared how the Convergence process leads to effective results, including behind the scenes stories of what happened and lessons learned that can be applied in a variety of settings.
